Help
I conceived of Computer Help in the Autumn of 2003 as a means to
fill a void in a largely untapped market - technical service and
support for home users and small/home offices. After fielding help
requests from friends and family for many years, it became clear
that the type of problems that an average user has come up again
and again, and can be much more efficiently handled by someone who
knows what they are doing.
Unless a computer becomes completely unusable, most users will
simply struggle with, and find ways to work around, computer
problems. At the same time, they also feel that were help
available to them they would gladly pay for it; they don't realize
how much help is actually available to them. It doesn't have to be
like this.
My aim is to bring competent technical service and support to the
'average' user in a personalized fashion. If I can fix a system,
put together a website, or build a new system and leave the
customer with a positive feeling, a greater understanding about
the technical world, and a more useful set of computing tools,
then my job is done.
Myself
The Best way to learn any new skill is to roll your sleeves up and
get your hands dirty. The first computer I ever got my hands on
was an IBM PC clone in 1988 at age 10. For the last 16 years I
have been tinkering with and programming computers in my spare
time. In my academic life, I've earned degrees in Physics and
Computer Science. In my professional life, I've done everything
from adjusting ski bindings in a rental shop to running a nuclear
reactor. To this day, there is little that remains as satisfying
as working with my hands and mind to solve real problems.
